Whew! May is a whirlwind month for our family, I've asked several times last month which is crazier, May or December? Life seems to never slow down. But I've been keeping up with my 365 (a miracle!) and wanted to share with you some of my favorites from the month. Ok, so I say "keeping up" and mean still shooting daily. I'm actually a full week behind on uploading and editing, so this blog post will be a bit incomplete.
But I wanted to jump in again with some of my friends and favorite documentary-style family photographers in our monthly blog circle. I enjoy their photos so much, and I can see how much we've all grown and improved since we started this last summer. So, after my post, please click the link below to follow the circle around to catch a little glimpse into the lives of Christine, Liz and Jess.
May is a big month in our family for birthdays! My oldest not only turned 6 but she also graduated from preschool (our kids do the Young 5's program at SUMC) and is off to Kindergarten in the Fall. I needed to take a portrait of her for her graduation slideshow. She's my toughest to get a picture of and I was really intentional this month to try to capture her, as I've slacked in doing that so far this year. You should see the (MANY) outtakes. I just happened to catch her with eyes toward the camera and with a decent expression. She prefers silly faces. I also am working on a video of her for her birthday (which was a couple weeks ago...I'm behind...)
In May, we went on our FIRST full family vacation! It's been three years since we went on a vacay and the last time, I was pregnant with AJ. So this was a big deal. I have a million shots from that trip, I'll try to add more, but here's a favorite from sunrise on Mother's Day. Yup, I dragged them out of bed at 6:30am for this.
It's no secret we love firefighters in this house and this one of AJ was also featured on Instagram's "Dearest Viewfinder." Sometimes I get bored with shooting daily, so I just try to creatively capture everyday moments, like AJ playing with his cars.
In May we finished out our first soccer season. Yup, I'm officially a minivan driving soccer mom living in the burbs. All things I swore I'd never do.... But soccer practice was in the evening and I got to catch some pretty light.
Here's some every day moments I captured throughout the month. I do try to catch them all in one frame, if possible.
And one last one, because our summer is finally here and we're starting out with all the good things: Pool time, water balloons, boat rides, sprinklers, bubbles, bike riding, sidewalk chalk....I so badly need to catch up on pictures, but here's a fun shot in our backyard of the beginning of our summer.
Hope you've enjoyed a little glimpse into my crazy little life. Now please follow our circle around, next up is the incredibly talented Christine Hurla, click here to see what she's been shooting this past month: Kansas City Family Photographer.
